You may remember Rachelle and Dallas from their engagement photos in Logan Square last summer. I had a blast working with them the first time, and I couldn’t wait for their Hawaii destination wedding in Kauai! Chicago was going through its snowiest February on record, so a trip to Kauai, Hawaii was a perfect reprieve from the winter blues. I try not to take on too many destination weddings every year because of all the time that gets wasted travelling, but I had never been to Hawaii and was really looking forward to it!
I wrote this blog post yesterday, but given the earthquake in Japan and the resulting tsunamis which are hitting all of the Pacific area, I hesitated for a moment before posting it. I can only hope and wish for the safety of everyone in Hawaii and everywhere else.
Rachelle and Dallas both got ready at the Ho’Onani Estates in Poipu, on the southern part of Kauai. After they were ready to go, we jumped in a car and headed to Poipu Beach to take a few photos. This is probably the busiest beach on the island, and on such a nice day, it was packed with both locals and tourists! We managed to find a spot near the water where there weren’t swarms of people to take a few fun photos. Afterwards, we headed to Joe’s on the Green for the ceremony and reception. The sunset was gorgeous, and I was so excited that Rachelle and Dallas wanted to sneak away from their reception for a few minutes to take a few more photos! Congratulations, guys, and thank you so much for bringing me to Kauai for your Hawaii destination wedding. I wish you both nothing but the best!

Poipu beach was so pretty, and so crowded! We managed to find a spot that wasn’t too overrun was beach-goers.
Off to Joe’s on the Green for the ceremony and reception!
I went a little silhouette-crazy against the gorgeous sunset.

all of the images are so clean, colorful and strong – well done!
I can see how it would be easy to go silhouette-crazy with a sunset like that. Love the dress shot, too. and the kiss shot, with the officiant walking away. And the two after that. OK, I have to stop listing favorites now or I will just keep going.
beautiful and sweet :)
Awesome mix of emotion, photojournalism and portrait work.
Steve – The photographs are so fantastic. You have really captured the spirit of the day. Messages have been pouring in from our friends and family complimenting the photos and saying they are amazed by them! We can’t thank you enough for coming to Kauai and being a part of our wedding day! Mahalo nui loa, Rachelle & Dallas

Great wedding – love the moments captured!
Steve these are awesome. I miss Hawaii.
Those sunset shots are killer!! Awesome work!
My favorite picture is the sunset one of the couple. I lived in the Carribean for two years and would always try to capture moments at sunset like that, which is actually harder than it looks. Perfect outline of them two, as well as the shot of the group.
