Lake Shore East Engagement Photos : Melissa and Steve

Here’s a few favorites from Melissa and Steve’s engagement photos around Lake Shore East Park, just north of downtown Chicago. Steve and I may have bored Melissa a little bit with way too much geek-talk about iPhones and Steve’s Moto 360 watch, and I had a great time working with this fun couple!

Here’s a few favorites from Christine and Michael’s engagement photos in downtown Chicago! This lovely couple really wanted to get a portrait at the Board of Trade, and even though it was a weekday, we were able to start just after rush hour to make sure that it wouldn’t be a madhouse. Chicago West Loop Session : Cadence and Eli

Cadence and I were teammates when we attended the Foundation workshop this past year. The experience turned us into friends, so I was thrilled to hear that they’d be in town for a wedding in Chicago! I loved getting the opportunity to meet her husband Eli. Cadence and Eli are  fantastic photographers, so I was humbled when they wanted to do a session. With dinner plans at Publican already made, we decided to keep it simple and shoot our session in the West Loop.

Lincoln Park Engagement Session : Jenna and Andrew

I met Jenna and Andrew for their Lincoln Park Engagement Session at the bridge over South Pond just after a downpour.  They came walking up to me with an umbrella and the rain stopped:  we started shooting with only a few other moments of rainy sprinkles in between.  First, we walked around the pond and trees, with flowers blooming and lovely boardwalks accompanied by Chicago sky-line in the background.  By the time we crossed the North Avenue walking bridge, the sun cut through the clouds and rain drops so as we walked along Lake Michigan, with Chicago in the distance, the light cut across and landed on Jenna and Andrew perfectly.  Thank you so much to you both for such a lovely session!  I’m so excited to capture your wedding in October!

Northerly Island Engagement Session : Ann and Chris

I met Ann and Chris to start their Chicago engagement session at Kinzie Street Bridge on the river in downtown, with a plan to end up at Northerly Island and the Planetarium for a variety of urban and wide-open-spaces type shots.  When we arrived, a thunderstorm popped up just west of the city, so we tentatively began with thunder in the background and in the end…. lucky for us, only a spell of sprinkles for a few minutes in the middle.  Ann and Chris thank you so much for such a charming session.  Lots of people were out on a hot late Sunday evening in the city, but we found a few havens where we almost felt alone.  We ended up at the marina, for a little sun peeking through among the boats and boardwalk, and Chris treated us all to a Chicago style hot dog, which absolutely hit the spot!  I’m so excited for your upcoming wedding in August!!

Roscoe Village Engagement Session : Bruni and Fred

You can tell that Summer is finally here when you start to see some amazing bikes hit the streets of Chicago. Lucky enough for me one of my newly engaged couples are huge fans of biking and asked me to explore their neighborhood with them as part of our engagement shoot. Also, if you didn’t already know this I love dogs so incorporating their puppy, Leica (awesome name!), was an easy task. Between hanging out with Bruni and Fred in their back yard, hitting the pavement on some fantastic Heritage Bicycles, and taking advantage of Roscoe Village’s pretty tree lined streets I would call that a successful day. Fred and Bruni-I’m really looking forward to your wedding day!

Lincoln Park and North Ave Beach Engagement Session : Heather and Steve

The allure of Lincoln Park’s blooming flowers and lush greenery is what drew our amazing Wicker Park couple, Heather and Steve, out of their neighborhood for our engagement session together. Steve’s great sense of humor kept Heather  smiling while we strolled through Lincoln Park and also along Chicago’s iconic skyline. After an afternoon like this one I can’t wait for how much fun we’ll have the day of your wedding!

North Pond Engagement Session : Amy and Michael

I don’t make it often enough to Lincoln Park’s North Pond, and when I arrived for my shoot with Amy and Michael I was reminded as to why I like it there so much. Amy and Michael’s warm and fun personalities really set the pace for our afternoon and I’m sure you can tell by their photos how great of a match they are for each other. Given the beautiful weather we had that day we meandered our way to the Alfred Caldwell Lily Pool and the Lincoln Park Zoo.

Amy and Michael, thanks for spending a fantastic Spring afternoon with me! I’m looking forward to catching up with you on your wedding day.

Wicker Park Engagement Session : Bridget and Aaron

Wicker Park is a fantastic neighborhood in and of itself, and getting to shoot an engagement session there takes a certain couple. Bridget and Aaron made a special trip for this shoot from LA and we’re glad they could pull it off because we had an amazing time. With a less-cheesy ‘Mad-About-You’ description to go off of, we set off on the only beautiful day we had that week and stopped at some local hangout spots. With the exception of photographing them the entire time, their playful and relaxed attitude made our shoot seem like just another perfect Spring day. Getting to know Bridget and Aaron after photographing his twin brother’s Salvage One Wedding was a blast!

Bridget and Aaron- I can’t wait to shoot your wedding and please remember to bring some of that amazing LA weather with you again.

Much Anticipated Spring Engagement Sessions

This time of year is definitely my favorite not only because of the amazing weather that it brings, but because it means that I can team up with some fantastic couples for their engagement photos. Any Chicagoan can agree that the first few weeks of Spring put a boost in your step and when you combine that with newly engaged couples it really makes for a great day. These couples and I held out for some warm, sunny days and in return I had some amazing shoots that I wanted to share. Here are some sneak peaks and there’s is absolutely more to come!

Chicago Engagement Session – Irene and Eric

I met Irene, Eric and their beautiful 2 year old dog Charles in their West Loop neighborhood for their engagement session.  We began at Mary Bartelme Park, then found some quirky wall art before we dropped Charles off, made a quick wardrobe change, then headed over to the bridges of the Chicago River around Kinzie Street, Franklin, and Wells.  It was a gorgeous night for walking around Chicago with breaks of sun amidst some fun clouds.  Thanks Irene and Eric for such a great session, and I’m so excited for your wedding this fall!

Chicago Engagement Session : Jen and Tavis

Remember my big wedding giveaway? Of course you do! The winning couple received tons of great stuff, including a makeup bag makeover from Sonia Roselli, jewelry by Erin Gallagher, event planning from Sweetchic Events, thank-you cards from Keg Design, free services from Halo for Men, and of course, an engagement session with Steve Koo Photography!

Jen and Tavis live in Madison, so they made a weekend getaway to Chicago where they could take advantage of all these fantastic prizes. They had a whirlwind day that started with a visit to Sonia for Jen and a trip to Halo for Men for Tavis. Afterwards, they sat down with Charlene at Sweetchic Events for some wedding planning help, and finally, we met in Millennium Park for our engagement session!

Logan Square Chicago Engagement Session

I’ve been lucky that I’ve been able to shoot so many fun Chicago engagement sessions lately! Kelly and Brian definitely continued that trend. It was a frigid Sunday afternoon in Chicago; we were on the verge of spring, but temperatures were still in the 30s. We did most of our session in Logan Square, one of my favorite neighborhoods. Carolyn, Dan, Two Cats, A Turtle, and Pizza

Carolyn and Dan are getting married this year at Salvage One. Rather than doing a conventional engagement session, they invited me over one evening to hang out with them at their lovely home.

Carolyn and Dan have two super-friendly cats.

undefined

They have a turtle, named Turtle. He bobbed his head out of the water whenever someone came up to him!

undefined

And, they have fantastic taste in TV and movies.

undefined

After I was introduced to all of the animals, Carolyn and Dan finished up their wedding invitations:

undefinedundefinedundefinedundefinedundefined

Once the last of the wedding invitations were done, we went into the kitchen to make pizza!

undefinedundefinedundefinedundefinedundefinedundefinedundefined

And then they fed me pizza!

The pizza was delicious, in case you were curious. Congratulations, Carolyn and Dan; I can’t wait for your wedding!

Kate and Dan’s Engagement Session

Kate and Dan are a fantastic couple that love architecture, urban decay, and art. These three objects also served as inspiration for their engagement photos, which we took in Chicago’s urban West Loop area. Once purely an industrial area littered with shipping and manufacturing buildings, the West Loop has recently become home to several boutiques, loft spaces, and some of the best restaurants in Chicago. The area provided a perfect backdrop for our engagement session.

Congratulations, Kate and Dan. I loved working with you at your urban engagement session, and I can’t wait until your wedding!
