Winters in Chicago have a reputation for good reason, so when Serena and Jan asked me to photograph their destination wedding in Key West this past December, I jumped at the opportunity! Serena and Jan had a lovely, intimate wedding at the gorgeous Sunset Key Cottages in Key West, Florida. The cottages are on an island of their own on the westernmost point of Key West, ensuring a beautiful sunset for anyone who stays at the cottages. Serena and Jan opted to take their family on a trolley tour of Key West the day before the wedding, which included a stop at the famous Ernest Hemingway home, as well as all a handful of spots on Duvall Street. Let’s get to the Sunset Key Cottages wedding photos!
We started off the first day with a tea ceremony in Serena and Jan’s cottage.
Serena wore her mother’s old wedding dress for the occasion.
After the tea ceremony, we met up with the rest of the families and headed to the main part of Key West for the sightseeing tour.
This included a stop where we waited in line to see the most southernmost point of the USA…
Snow cones…
… And a stop at the Hemingway house.
After a full day of sightseeing, I met up again with Serena as she got ready the morning of the ceremony with her family.
Meanwhile, Jan was getting ready in his parents’ cottage.
I probably photographed these two almost as much as I did the bride and groom:
Sunset Key Cottages was a perfect setting for this intimate beach wedding ceremony. I discovered that Key West is second behind only Vegas in destination weddings, and it’s not hard to see why!
After the ceremony, we took advantage of the sunset to take a few portraits on the beach.
Afterwards, we headed into Latitudes Restaurant at the Sunset Key Cottages for a celebratory dinner with both families.
